I work in both painting and photographic media and my interest lies in how nature and mankind are perceived and contextualized in the twenty first century. My work explores, both technically and ideologically, the harmonisation of divergent traditions and aims to illuminate the potential and new dynamics created through resolution of the diverse and the disparate – namely classicism meets contemporary.
Paradise Lost? is a series of photographs which aim to express the extraordinary beauty and majesty of nature while at the same time exposing the severity of the global environmental situation in the twenty first century. Dartmoor was the chosen location for the project because of its unique light, the beauty and diversity of its landscape and because of a personal love of wilderness. My hope is to encourage a re-evaluation of the relationship between nature and mankind and to highlight the sad reality of a rapidly diminishing natural realm – a treasure in decline.
