She is blind, unable to walk, and lives in a small room in a residential home in Wiltshire. She tells me that her big sister remembered the funeral of Queen Victoria. She herself vividly remembers sitting in a basement as a child and watching the boots of hundreds of soldiers marching off to the first war. A life-long Labour supporter, she couldn’t vote until she was thirty and says she will not be voting Labour next time, because Blair has told lies and she can’t abide lies. She is optimistic and positive about life.
